Gina's bio
Gina Starr was born in San Francisco, CA into a home where artistic expression was honored and practiced. Her mother and grand mother were artists who taught her, at an early age, that one of life's greatest joys is to express who you are through your art.
As a trained classical ballet dancer, Gina's art reflects her love and passion for movement. Expression through movement has become her way of life, and seeing that movement expressed on paper as a "dance" of line, color, and form, is at the core of her artistic expression. Gina's work with young children, in the field of Early Childhood Education, has helped her to trust the presence of spontaneity and emotions, which is also reflected in her art.
The natural world calls her to explore organic patterns, and she is finding that her work is becoming more reflective of the universal, rather than the personal. As a world traveler, she envisions her art as becoming a vehicle for capturing global images, and to express her compassion for the human condition.
She writes: "In the winter of 2005 my husband and I joined a small group of friends and traveled to South Africa. For one month we experienced, and were astonished by, the beauty of this magnificent country, the spirit of its people, the animals who live free, and the timelessness of the land."
Her work is an exuberance of colors blending into a precision of form that can be mystical and mysterious, with its energy often leading her hand. Her process creates a dialogue between her soul and her artist's mind, and directs a flow of expression without the encumbrance of ego.
Gina lives in Maine with her husband, Peter, and her Siamese cat, Jaia. Her works are rendered in pastels, pencil, acrylic paint and inks.
